Life In Him Alone - By Andy Petrie (CR Landing Director)
Life In Him Alone
Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” - John
6:68 NIV
There came a point in Jesus' ministry that a large number of his
followers deserted him and walked away. It was right after Jesus taught
and expounded on the truth that He was indeed the "bread of life". The
metaphor was too much for some, and they left. After
watching so many leave, Jesus turned to His disciples and simply asked,
"Are you leaving, too?" Simon Peter's response is so beautiful and
honest in the face of that question. He realized that there was no where
else to turn, and even if there was, no one
had the life-giving message that Jesus, "the Holy One of God", had.
Many of us come into recovery because we've tried for so long to make
our own way through life. And as we've relied on our own strength,
wisdom, and resilience, we've found ourselves empty, dry, and weak. But
as we start our recovery journeys, we start to come
face-to-face with something truly incredible – the life and hope found
in relationship with Jesus. It's a life and hope that we know can't be
found anywhere else! The stories of life-change, the freedom and joy we
see in others, the love expressed in the face
of our brokenness - all of it testifies to the power and hope
that Jesus alone can bring. And once we taste and see that, we
know there's nothing else that can satisfy like Him.
