He Hadn't Seen the Rain - Rodney Holmstrom, Global CR Field Director

I'm thinking today about the familiar Bible story in the Old Testament where Noah showed incredible faith as he carried out his obedience to God in building the ark. Rain was coming and he was called to get ready.
Imagine how the people around him were speaking toward him. I think they were perhaps whispering about him behind his back and some even some more overtly in front of his face, with a seemingly familiar message ... “Are you losing your mind Noah?! Rain?!” There had to be some giggling behind the scenes with thoughts that it was impossible to have such an abundance of rain to have a need for a boat that big. But, nevertheless, Noah kept building. He kept believing. He kept his faith and trusting that what God asked him to do would be for things greater than he could see with his eyes in that moment. Sometimes when we are working with God to grow and change our heart with the recovery process, we can hear similar messages. I've heard them myself. “Why are you going to those silly CR meetings?” “You say you will change, but I don’t buy it” “Change isn’t possible. You’re too far gone, Rodney!” If you’re hearing these or other messages that are trying to distract and deter you from staying the course, remember this: Noah had faith even when he had never seen rain before. Yes, the world may think your wasting your time. They may even tell you that change isn’t possible. Maybe you’ve never seen change yourself before and it’s seems impossible to face. If you’re on the journey, you’ve already taken a huge step in faith. Keep going. As you take another step today in your recovery, step forward with a faith like Noah’s, knowing God will never leave nor forsake you. He’s working in, for and through you even when you can’t see it. He will give you all the power you need to carry out His plans for your life. The fruit of your obedience is coming. Hold on to the future anticipation of great fruit in Christ, knowing that God will cover your family for generations to come. Keep building. Keep trusting. Keep moving forward. Greater things are still to come.
