His Promises - By Andy Petrie, Natl. Landing Director of CR

His Promises

The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry. Isaiah 58:11 NLT

Life has a pointed way of revealing just how powerless we really are. Circumstances and situations pop up regularly that can make me feel like things are slipping through my hands. I don’t know what to do in those situations.

Before recovery I often ran to ways that I thought under my own strength would fill me up and make me feel stable – funny thing is that those coping mechanisms and protections never fully protected or dealt with the pain and frustration I was feeling.

Recovery has taught me a different way – to rely on a higher power greater than myself (Jesus) to restore me to sanity, and to trust that He is in control, watching over me, and has the power to help me recover. Leaning on that truth and learning to trust it in my deepest heart allows me to approach those “the world is closing in” moments differently.

Isaiah 58:11 echos the promises of God’s provision, guidance, and care for us when we find ourselves in those dry, barren, and confused places. In our dryness, He promises living water for our souls. In our confusion, He promises His guidance. In our feelings of being alone and lost, He is with us and is never letting us go. I know it does my heart good to be reminded of that.

How about you? Can you take that in? Is there a situation that’s overwhelming you today?
Hear the promise of God for you and I:

The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry.
Isaiah 58:11 NLT
